With approximately 75,000 crime prevention volunteers across the country, the RCMP is the leading federal government agency in volunteer participation.

The RCMP in British Columbia is fortunate to enjoy the support of over 6,300 volunteers who are part of approximately 48,000 volunteers in BC engaging in crime prevention activities. Volunteers give freely of their time, knowledge and energy to assist in achieving our goal of Safe Homes, Safe Communities. These volunteers provide service in and to our Detachments, Community Policing Offices and in the communities we serve throughout British Columbia.

Volunteers commit a minimum of 4 hours per week to the program they are involved with, with some giving many more. The energy and commitment they give assists in achieving our shared vision of Safe Homes, Safe Communities.

Volunteers are involved in a wide variety of activities, including but not limited to the following:

  • Volunteer standing by a road for Speed Watch Auxiliary Constable Program
  • Bike Patrol
  • Block Watch
  • Chaplaincy Program
  • Citizens on Patrol
  • Community Advisory Committees
