About Burnaby RCMP

The City of Burnaby is located on the ancestral and unceded homelands of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Sníchim speaking peoples. We are grateful for the opportunity to be on this territory.

With an estimated population of more than 249,000 residents, the Burnaby RCMP has grown into the third largest RCMP Detachment in Canada. In 2023, there were 301 police officers and 116 City of Burnaby employees working at the detachment.

The RCMP has served Burnaby since 1950, and we are proud to take a progressive and community-minded approach to policing and public safety in our vibrant and diverse city.

Our detachment motto is Partners For a Safe Community, as we believe working together with our community enhances and strengthens public safety.

As our city continues to grow and evolve, the Burnaby RCMP is committed to listening to our community and responding to its changing needs, and to working together with partner agencies to take new approaches to emerging, complex, and challenging issues such as mental health response, gang activity, and the opioid crisis.

Burnaby is incredibly diverse, with more than 120 languages spoken across the city. I am proud that our staff reflects that diversity, which allows us to break down barriers, and better understand and connect with the citizens we serve. In 2021, it was estimated that more than 120 Burnaby RCMP officers spoke at least one additional language.

As well as our unwavering commitment to public safety, the Burnaby RCMP is also committed to nurturing a healthy workplace for all of our employees.

I would like to thank and acknowledge the City of Burnaby and its citizens for their partnership and for supporting their Burnaby RCMP.

Chief Supt. Graham de la Gorgendiere
Officer in Charge, Burnaby RCMP
